Since 2016, Sound Future has been connecting creatives to aspiring youth. Birthed as a RISE San Diego Urban Fellowship Community Action Project by founder Ferchil Ramos, we've been conducting a creative career expo we've called Sound Future to show youth thriving examples of Black, brown, and indigenous creatives from communities similar to the ones our attendees are raised in and with.
Sound Future helps youth from our communities be inspired by Emmy Award winners, San Diego Music Award recipients, Broadway performers, and many other talented professionals who have come from the very communities in which our creative youth attendees are living.
Our free event allows us to expose these future professionals to success stories, role models and potential mentors, career opportunities in the arts, and resources and information to help our youth begin the path to a successful and rewarding professional career as a creative.
BUILDING OUR FUTURE
Through learning different arts disciplines (Event planning, Branding and Design, Audio and Video production, and Set Building and Environmental Design) people will learn from the experts themselves and gain insight about the skills and tools that are needed to tap into the creative economy.
During the Sound Future Creative Career Expo, attendees can take in performances from local musicians, poets, and other artists to see how it truly takes more than just the people on the stage to have a memorable performance, it takes a whole community lifting up the performers and their work.
By partnering with individuals and organizations that are aligned with, together we can build the future that we want to see together by shared solidarity and co-creation.
In the past, we've partnered with RISE San Diego, A Reason To Survive, Soul Sunday, The La Jolla Playhouse, Pacific Arts Movement, Urban Beats, and many others.
Sound Future: Creative Playgrounds (2019)
In 2019, Sound Future partnered with Pacific Arts Movement, Each One Teach One, and BoodleFight to present Sound Future: Creative Playgrounds.
The partnership led to bold and engaging panels with the most attendees we've had in our short history.
